ABOUT FLEURAVIDA™

Fleuravida™ was founded by ShaVanety Jones, SSP, NCSP, a nationally certified school psychologist, executive functioning coach, educator, and thespian who believes every child deserves to be seen for their strengths. 

ShaVanety attended a gifted school in Louisiana where she was one of the few Black students in her class. She remembers knowing every Black student in her grade and only having one Black teacher and one Black school counselor during her elementary years. While she was provided a great education and academic support, she did not always have access to Black mentors or role models who could help her envision the many paths available to her. Those experiences helped shape her passion for supporting gifted, talented, and twice-exceptional (2E) learners while increasing access and opportunity for historically underserved communities. Inspired by the African American proverb, "Each one, Teach one." ShaVanety believes that sharing knowledge, opening doors, and guiding the next generation are essential parts of creating lasting change.

After originally planning to attend law school, her undergraduate psychology professor introduced her to the field of school psychology. She quickly realized it was the perfect combination of psychology, education, and advocacy. In 2020, ShaVanety moved from Louisiana to Washington State to complete her school psychology internship. During that time, she began building relationships with students, families, and educators while developing her passion for culturally responsive, strengths-based support.

Throughout her career, ShaVanety has often found herself being one of the few Black professionals that students encounter in their schools and, for some students, their first Black school psychologist. This experience has reinforced her belief that representation matters, currently, only 3.9% of school psychologists identify as Black. ShaVanety believes students deserve to see examples of what is possible, not only in psychology, but in any field they choose to pursue. Representation opens doors, expands possibilities, and helps students envision futures they may not have previously imagined.

While ShaVanety loves supporting students and families, she noticed a common pattern among many of the students she served. They were academically capable, but needed support with communicating their needs, making friends, building confidence, and learning how to navigate the competing demands of high school. Parents were also eager to learn strategies to help their children.

Many gifted learners were being overlooked because they were considered "capable," while others had disabilities like ADHD that made it harder for people to recognize just how talented they really were. She kept thinking, “who is helping students develop these skills?”

Around the same time, ShaVanety began exploring sketch comedy, improv comedy, community theatre, voice acting, and playwriting. She soon realized creativity wasn't separate from her work as a school psychologist, it was a complement. By combining evidence-based practices with creative expression, she saw students become more engaged, confident, and willing to use their voices.

In a nutshell, that’s how Fleuravida™ was born. The name Fleuravida™ reflects ShaVanety's Louisiana roots and the cultural influences that shaped the state. Fleur means "flower" in French, while vida means "life" in Spanish. The name was inspired by the Costa Rican phrase Pura Vida, which ShaVanety embraced during her first international trip. Fleuravida™ represents growth, resilience, and living life fully. Like the magnolia, Louisiana's state flower, every child has the potential to bloom when nurtured in the right environment. ShaVanety is committed to creating that environment for every student she interacts with.
